Jaguar Land Rover India today announced the opening of bookings for the new Defender P400e, the luxury automaker’s maiden plug-in hybrid in the country. The deliveries of the Land Rover Defender plug-in hybrid are expected to commence in India from the first quarter of the Financial Year 2021-22.
In the new Land Rover Defender P400e, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine joins forces with a 105kW electric motor, producing a combined power of 404PS and 640Nm of cumulative torque. The Land Rover Defender plug-in hybrid gets a 19.2kWh lithium-ion battery, which can be charged using a 15A socket or a 7.4kW AC wall box charger, both being complimentary with the SUV. The vehicle can complete a 0-100kmph sprint in 5.6seconds and touch a top speed of 209kmph.
The new Land Rover Defender plug-in hybrid is being offered in India in 110 (five-door) body style in four variants — SE, HSE, X-Dynamic HSE and X.
“We are extremely proud to introduce our first plug-in hybrid, the new Defender P400e in India, a vehicle that perfectly balances performance with efficiency while retaining Land Rover’s legendary off-road capability. This also reaffirms our commitment to the introduction of electrified vehicles across the Jaguar Land Rover portfolio, after we had opened bookings for Jaguar I-PACE in November 2020,” Jaguar Land Rover India President and Managing Director Rohit Suri said.
The Land Rover Defender P400e will be a major addition to the Land Rover range in India that currently includes the Range Rover Evoque, Discovery Sport, Range Rover Velar, Discovery, Defender, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover.
Jaguar Land Rover India had launched the Land Rover Defender in October 2020. Available in 90 (three-door) and 110 (five-door) body styles, the prices start at Rs 73.98 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the Defender 90 and Rs 79.94 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the Defender 110.
